Nepal's Drone Laws at a Glance

Nepal's drone regulations classify UAVs by weight and set strict rules for flight operations, registration, and permissions. Understanding these laws is the first step to flying legally.

  • Drones classified as Micro, Mini, Medium, and Large by weight
  • Maximum altitude of 400 feet AGL in uncontrolled airspace
  • Mandatory line-of-sight flying at all times
  • No-fly zones around airports (5km), borders & military areas
  • Prior CAAP permission required for all commercial operations
DRONE CLASSIFICATION — Based on Maximum Take-Off Weight (MTOW)
Micro
< 250g
Mini
250g – 2kg
Medium
2kg – 25kg
Large
> 25kg

Note: All commercial drone operations require prior approval from the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN). Recreational pilots must also register drones above 250g.
